About this site

Purpose of this site

The US Citizenship (N-400) Eligibility Checker is a free, independent tool that helps lawful permanent residents (green card holders) quickly find out whether they likely qualify to file Form N-400 for naturalization.

Naturalization eligibility depends on several rules that confuse many applicants: the 5-year versus 3-year (spouse) track, the physical-presence day count, continuous residence, and the 90-day early-filing window. This tool turns those rules into a few simple questions so you can see where you stand before paying the USCIS fee or hiring an attorney.

How it works

The checker runs entirely in your browser. It applies the thresholds from the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA §316 and §319(a)) and the USCIS Policy Manual — 913 days of physical presence for the 5-year track, 548 days for the 3-year spouse track, and the continuous-residence rules around long absences. We update the logic when the rules or fees change.

Independent and neutral

This is an independently operated site that builds simple tools to remove the friction from complex immigration and tax rules. We are not affiliated with USCIS or any government agency, and the tool does not collect or store your answers — everything is processed locally in your browser.

Before you rely on it
